Pei designed, <\/span>Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)<\/span> should be the first stop.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Standing just off the\u00a0<\/span>Doha Corniche\u2019s <\/span>popular waterfront promenade, the monolithic limestone structure overlooks the Dhow Harbour. <\/span>It embodies Qatar\u2019s future – capturing traditional <\/span>inspiration within modern architecture as the foundation for Doha\u2019s burgeoning cultural scene. The diverse collection includes paintings, sculpture, textiles and jewellery, representing the diversity of the Islamic world dating from the seventh through the twentieth centuries. Take time to wander through the exquisitely curated and displayed exhibitions presented over four floors. While you\u2019re there break for lunch at <\/span>IDAM<\/span> – Alan Ducasse\u2019s first restaurant in the Middle East. Centred around a large amphitheatre overlooking one of Qatar\u2019s most beautiful natural beaches, this multidimensional cultural precinct combines theatres, concert halls, exhibition galleries and restaurants.<\/span><\/p>\n To really appreciate and understand the Qatari culture and past, a visit to four restored historic houses, collectively referred to as the <\/span>Msheireb Museums<\/span> is a must. Located within the oldest part of city, they reveal Qatar\u2019s social and cultural development, from the once enslaved pearl divers to pioneering Qatari petroleum industry workers. <\/span><\/p>\n A walk around the antique and spice markets of the <\/span>Souq Waqif<\/span> is best visited late in the afternoon or the early evening hours, <\/span>when locals and visitors are out enjoying the local Qatari cuisine and \u2018shisha time\u2019 at one of the many caf\u00e9s and restaurants within the souq. Also keep an eye out for the <\/span>Falcon Souq<\/span> and <\/span>Arabian Horse <\/span>Stables, both a <\/span>short walk from the main souk. The falcons are deeply revered a<\/span>nd respected by Qataris, and can be seen proudly displayed on the wrists of the young men.<\/span><\/p>\n STAY<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n There is certainly no shortage of world class hotels in Doha, from luxury beach resorts from the world\u2019s most renowned hotel brands, to small luxury boutique hotels converted from existing historic buildings within the Souq Waqif.
